Hello to all Radley Families!

My name is Gus Somerfeld and I couldn't be more proud of what this school district is all about and how all of us in this district look forward to working with all of your children and their families.

I would like to take this opportunity to share a bit about myself and what it means to me to be in this district serving as the Radley Elementary Principal. I was granted the privilege of working in the district as a 5th grade teacher for 5 years. With that, I did multiple practicums and even student taught in this very school previous to being officially hired to teach. For nearly a decade, I have enjoyed getting to know EH families, kids, and community members. I believe the school system here is one of the lifelines and heartbeat of our community and I hope to continue that tradition well into the future.

My background as an educator has been great and has taught me many lessons and skills that will help me serve this school district and the community, but I think my experiences growing up are just as helpful and impactful for this job. I grew up in a small farming community outside of Great Falls, MT called Power. I was able to understand the value of working until the task is completed the right way.  Also, growing up in Power, MT allowed me to understand how small community dynamics work and how they can be the strongest asset a town can have. From there, I attended Carroll College on a football scholarship and was granted the privilege of playing a sport I love while getting a great education. That is where I met my future wife and life partner, and was even able to take part of the EH Rodeo on our very first date! After graduation, I was able to move out to EH and start my career here as an educator and our small family does not see a future without EH in our sights.

The staff here at Radley is one of the finest you can find. They dedicate countless hours to serving each and every child, day or night, and embody "SUCCESS FOR ALL STUDENTS." Please know that your children will receive an incredible education from our fine staff that emphasize teaching the "whole child" academic, social/emotional, and behavioral skills.

Mr. Brandon Crusat (EG and PPE Principal) says it best: "My 3 pillars: Be seen by students, be supportive of staff, be heard by the community. These pillars have cemented my practices and how I identify myself as a leader."  I hope to also embody this with all of you here at Radley.

Best,

Gus Somerfeld
